5 Inspirational Quotes & Pioneers of Neuroplasticity

Nov 01, 2020

In this blog, I share 5 of my favorite quotes from the foremost pioneers of neuroplasticity.

Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz' groundbreaking research and bestselling books put self-directed neuroplasticity on the map. His message:

Just because you have a thought doesn't make it true.

Not only can you change the way you think, feel, and behave through conscious effort, but you can also change the programming and chemistry of your own brain. Thanks to Dr. Schwartz, the once ridiculed and revolutionary idea that we can deliberately use our mind to change the brain, is now widely accepted in the mainstream.

His superb book, You Are Not Your Brain, provides a 4-step process on how to tackle obsessive thoughts, unhealthy behaviors, thought patterns, and habits.

Norman Doidge is to neuroplasticity what beer is to pizza. His critically acclaimed books, The Brain that Changes Itself and The Brains Way of Healing brought neuroplasticity to the masses.

This is a quote that I come back to often because it reminds me of the hope and possibility behind neuroplasticity.

Michael Gazzanigaone of the leading researchers in the field of neuroscience, made huge contributions to our understanding of how the left and right hemispheres of the brain communicate. Often referred to as "the father of cognitive neuroscience," he is undoubtedly one of the most provocative thinkers of our time.

I was particularly intrigued with his book, Who's in Charge?: Free Will and the Science of the Brain.

Spanish histologist, Santiago Ramon Y Cajal, received the 1906 Nobel Prize for unraveling the mysteries of the human brain and establishing the neuron as the basic unit of the nervous system. His proof of the 'neuron doctrine' is now the absolute basis of neuroscience. This finding was instrumental in recognizing the neuron’s fundamental role in the nervous system.

The above quote suggests that he was clearly ahead of his time in further understanding our ability to consciously self-direct the circuitry of our own brain!

It's no secret that I use a lot of  Joe Dispenza quotes in my blogs. I'm a huge fan of his ability to marry spirituality, brain science, and quantum physics in a simple, easy-to-understand way.

Dr. Dizpenza is an international lecturer, researcher, corporate consultant, author, and educator.  He is an expert in the science of changing your mind and has written many books on the subject. (I've read them all... multiple times.)

I'm especially fond of You Are the Placebo: Making Your Mind Matter. It was the first Dr. Joe book I read and it dramatically changed my perspective on healing.

Becoming Supernatural is another fave. It draws on all the research conducted in his advanced workshops since 2012 and explores how common people are doing the uncommon to transform themselves and their lives.

Both Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself and Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind, describe, in detail, the neuroscience of change and epigenetics.

I hope you've enjoyed these neuroplasticity gems as much as I enjoyed sharing them.

Cheering you on, always.
